How to organize your makeup for travel

how_to_pack_makeup_for_travelAfter smooshing several brushes, causing the bristles to fray out and not work well, I decided I needed to come up with a better system for packing up my personal makeup when I travel. I tried a few different bags and containers, but I didn’t love them. I finally found one that I love and here’s why:

-Your makeup and your brushes are together in one bag.

-It protects your brushes.

-You can fit a ton of makeup but it doesn’t take up a ton of room.

-You can work out of the bag, which saves counter space. And you don’t have to dump everything out to find what you need.

-The fabric is easy to clean (it’s a super nice black velvet.) Use a drop of soap diluted with water and wipe it down with a cloth and let it air dry.

It’s called the Hold Me Bag.  If you’re a video person, I found this video that shows it pretty well.

The first bags I purchased were between $30-$60, but none of them did what I needed them to do so for me this one is totally worth the cost. Plus it seems to be made of really high quality materials and it’s going to last.Travel_makeup_organizermakeup_for_travelhold_me_bagmakeup_organizerAs you can see in the photo where I’ve filled the bag with all my stuff, I put little labels on the left side.

I realized that typically when I’m getting ready to leave for a trip, I’m more stressed than normal and am packing in a hurry. After forgetting to grab a few essential makeup items during the packing process, I decided to make a list in my phone of items I’d need. That ended up being helpful, but still taking more time because I’d have to keep checking my phone to see if I got everything.

So I decided to just put the list directly in the bag, so I always have it.

Here’s my list if you’d like to use it to make a packing list for yourself:

Foundation

Concealer

Powder

Bronzer

Contour

Eyeliners

Blush

Eyeshadow Base

Eyeshadow

Mascara

Brow Pencil

Lips

Eyelash Curler

Lashes

Lash Glue

I used my label maker to make the list ( I have this model, but it’s discontinued and there’s newer nicer models available now for cheaper.) The reason I used my label maker instead of just printing a list is if I decide to add or change the list, I can just print another label instead of having to reprint the whole thing. Also these kinds of labels are durable (which is why I finally purchased a nicer label maker, because my cheaper handheld one can only print paper labels, which get annihilated when used for makeup organizing.)

I’d recommend getting this BROTHER PRINTER PTD600VP

And I used these black labels with white writing

Here’s my brush list:

Foundation

Concealer

Bronzer

Powder

Contour

Blush

Eyeliner

Eyeshadow

Tweezers

Scissors

The products in the bag: Givenchy Eclat Matissime foundation (discontinued.) I’ve been alternating it with Estee Lauder Double Wear Light (I mix #3 and #3.5 together for my shade.) Cle de Peau Concealer in Almond. Guerlain pressed powder in 03.  Guerlain bronzer. theBalm Bahama Mama. Urban Decay Eyeshadow base.  Chanel eyeshadows in Tisse Essentiel. Lancome eyeliner in Noir. Chanel liquid eyeliner. Lancome Definicils Mascara. Tarte blush in Blissful. Lancome O so Coral lipgloss. Urban Decay lip liner in Turn On. Bite Agave Lip Mask (I packed the trial size.) House of Lashes  in Siren and adhesive. Eyelash curler.

Brushes: Lancome Powder brush (I use for bronzer,) It Cosmetics Flawless powder, It Cosmetics dual ended foundation concealer brush (best price here, but also available at Ulta.) Makeup Forever 106 (I use it to apply cream blush.) Charlotte Tilbury Powder and Sculpt brush,  MAC Fluff Brush, MAC Mini Shader, Giorgio Armani concealer brush (I use it for eyes,) It Cosmetics Blending concealer brush,  Hourglass Large concealer brush, Hourglass Concealer brush.  MAC eyeliner brush (use with MAC creme liner.) Tweezerman tweezers (cheapest price here, but can also buy at Sephora.) Tweezerman Stork scissors.

Hold Me Bag here

I hope this is useful! If it is, leave a comment! And let me know if you’d like tips on the best ways to pack your toiletries too!

Ashley

Miss Ashley is always a blast to be around. She was getting some photos taken and requested more of a glam look. salt_lake_city_makeup_artistComplexion: It Cosmetics CC Cream in Medium(shade guide here)Tarte Creaseless Concealer in Medium,  Maskcara contour in Stone,  Tarte Blush in Fearless,  You can’t really tell in this photo but I also used Benefit Sun Beam on the high points of her cheekbones.

Eyes: Urban Decay shadow primer, MAC eyeshadows in Bamboo, Woodwinked (shimmer), Embark and Carbon. Guerlain ‘Cils d’Enfer’ mascara, Chanel liquid eyeliner, Lancome le Stylo in Cafe on inner rim, House of Lashes in Siren and House of Lashes adhesive.  Cleaned up her brows with my favorite tweezers.

Lips: Urban Decay lip liner in Streak, Lipstick Queen Cool Gin (I’ve been wearing this lipstick like everyday, love the color and texture. They describe it as a pink nude. I’d describe it as a rosy coral, medium brightness.)  And a little bit of Tom Ford Luca lipstick in the center to highlight. (shade guide here)

Valentines Makeup

Which style of makeup is your favorite? I can never decide. More glamorous and darker, or more beachy with softer, girlier makeup.

Since Valentine’s day is on a Sunday this year I will probably just be going to church…which if I think about it long enough, is actually kind of wonderful and romantic since Jeff (the hubs) will be there with me.

One of my favorite quotes of all time, seems to kind of fit into the Valentines Day theme…

“Only one life that soon will pass, only what’s done with love will last.” I think about that often when I’m stressed or feeling like what I do is inconsequential. I truly love my clients and love making them feel beautiful, so I hope it does manifest into something more than just me painting peoples faces!

Here are two Valentines Day makeup ideas!

The Prettiest Bridals

These are some of my favorite bridal photos I’ve ever seen. bridal_makeup_wedding_makeup_glammakeup_for_brides_wedding_makeup_artistbarbie_bridal-makeupAnd Camilla Binks Photography is a genius. I LOVE that she had Jessica take her hair out and the end to switch it up. So hot. richard_kid_history_married_wedding_richard_sharrah
And might I mention that Jessica my client, is literally a princess. At Disney World. And she married the ever so talented actor Richard Sharrah (YouTube sensation Kid History.)  Don’t feel weird staring at them ’cause they’re so good looking. I’m sure everybody does. richard_kidhistory_wedding_jessica_photoswinter_bridal_makeup_hairwedding_hairstyles_bridal_halfup_blondebridal_makeup_trends_vivianmakeupartistEyes

Holiday hair and makeup

As I’m sure you guys can tell by the frequency of my Jessa posts, I am stoked anytime I get to do hair and makeup on her. She needed a festive holiday makeup look and wanted to do something fun and different with her hair. jessa_holidayjessa_holiday_makeupjessa_hair_holiday_makeup

Complexion: Temptu airbrush (from this kit I used the foundation, the bronzer and contour, and the highlighter.) Blush is Tarte Glisten, and the brush I put it on with is this one.  Concealer is Cle de Peau in Almond and I use this brush. Setting powder is Guerlain in Medium (I’ve been using the pressed and loose powders from Guerlain and love them both. I use this brush.)

Eyes: Anti-aging eyeshadow base,  MAC eyeshadows in Omega and Woodwinked. Chanel eyeliner on top, Tarte Inner Rim nude on lower. Her brows are Lancome Taupe pencil.  Her lashes are Kiss Demi Wispies. Mascara is Hypnose Doll Lashes.

Let talk about lips.  I typically just tell you guys the colors I use on people, but as it’s getting cold and peoples lips are drying out, I’m finding that some of the occasional lip luxury’s are becoming more like lip must-do-all-the-time’s, otherwise the lip color looks crackly and dry.  I use this Bite Agave Lip mask like, all the time. Use it like you would a chapstick. It’s more luxurious than a normal chapstick though 😉 I also use it on my cuticles.

For super dry lips I’ll put on the Bite, let it sit for a little while, then use this Sugar Lip Polish.

Color on her lips is Urban Decay Blackmail liner and Bite Kir Royal and Bite fruit gloss in Candy Apple Red.  For precision, you can apply color with a lip brush.

There’s also this Lip set  that has some great stuff in it. I have the full size Pomegranate color, the mask, and the wipes and I LOVE them all.

Hair: Curled it all with my Sultra 1 inch.

Used Oribe Superfine hairspray

I used this comb to backcomb and the roots

And these pins.

Carlie Stylez Wedding Makeup

carlie_hairup_webCarlie is seriously one of the coolest chics ever. I had a blast doing her makeup for her bridals and wedding. We did a softer look for her bridals (as you can see in my previous post.) And then she went more glam for the day of because her reception’s overall vibe had more of an evening feel. carlie_color_webHere are the details:

Complexion: Temptu airbrush from this kit I used the foundation, the bronzer and contour, and the highlighter. Blush is Tarte Blushing Bride , and my favorite brush to put it on with is this one.  Concealer is Cle de Peau and I use this brush. Setting powder  is Guerlain (I’ve been using the pressed and loose powders from Guerlain and love them both. I use this brush.)

Eyes: Anti-aging eyeshadow base,  MAC eyeshadows in Ricepaper, Bronze and Woodwinked. Chanel eyeliner on top,  Urban Decay on bottom. Inner tear duct color is Urban Decay Yeyo (white shimmery pencil.) Her brows are naturally pretty dark so I didn’t want to make them too much darker so I just used a light colored pencil Brow Wiz in Taupe.  Her lashes are Kiss in Medium and Long  (she had lash extensions but we added the flares in for extra fullness. I wouldn’t recommend doing that to your lash extensions on the regular though;))  Mascara is Dior.

Lips: New winter fav liner Urban Decay Blackmail.  Chanel Temeraire lipstick.  Bobbi Brown Crystal gloss.

Body: Supermodel Body

The Beauty of Black Friday

I always have mixed emotions about Black Friday, because I feel guilty that people have to work when they could be with their families. Especially since Black Friday deals are now starting in stores on actual Thanksgiving. But I feel less bad doing Black Friday shopping online.

I am literally buying online from these exact places to stock up my kit, thought I’d share on the deals I’ve found.

TemptuPro.com:

I love the portable airbrush (the brush and the compressor,) Click here for how-to videos.

the s/b foundations (great for all skin types and can also be applied with a foundation brush.)

the dura foundation (alcohol based so once it’s on it doesn’t budge. Ideal for body.)

and the clear bags.  Also don’t forget to get some cleaner.

I also like the new airpod set up (I blogged about it a few posts back) because of the convenience. This formula will be slightly more hydrating than the s/b formula.

Enter code FALLFF for an additional 25% off everything.

(the difference between temptu pro site and temptu site is that temptu pro sells the s/b foundation.) This goes from Nov. 25th- Dec. 2nd.

Tartecosmetics.com:

I love the cheekstains, the inner rim liner,  the waterproof eyeliner, the creaseless concealer,  and poreless perfecting primer. Enter code FRIDAY! for 25% off everything.  Nov 25th- Nov 27th.

On Carlie’s lips:

Rouge Dior lipstick in Rose Baiser 361, Lancome lip liner in Caramel,  MAC Myth in center to highlight, Chanel gloss Rose Tendre.

Don’t mind me, i’m just going to be browsing this Nordstrom sale now……..

Natural Holiday Makeup

Holiday makeup is always pretty, but not always natural looking. I wanted to do a look that is still fun and festive, but isn’t so over-the-top that if you don’t wear a lot of makeup you’d feel like an imposter in your own skin. how_to_do_eye_makeup_1I started with all the basics. Also, in the following paragraphs I am being a bit more detailed because I want you guys to understand why different products work for different things <3

Foundation: Airbrush (this set gets you all the basics you need to figure out your exact color match, plus you have options if you are more fair in the winter or more tan in the summer. Also great for anyone wanting to do makeup on others.)

You can also apply the foundation with a normal foundation brush. I love this brush here

A good foundation for oily skin is Double Wear Light

Double Wear Light

A good foundation for normal dry skin is this one from YSL

YSL Foundation

For normal/combo or normal to dry skin I like this contour cream

Contour Cream

Use this Armani brush to apply the contour to the sides of the nose, and under-curve of the cheekbone

Armani Brush

then blend with a damp beauty blender.

  Beauty Blender & Cleanser

If you’re more oily or prefer a matte finish, I like this Sculpting Powder

Sculpting Powder
and I apply the contour powder down the sides of the nose and under-curve of the cheekbone using this Armani brush here
 Armani Brush

Undereye Concealer: Lancome Effacernes

how_to_do_eye_makeup_1

Eyes: Urban Decay Anti-aging eyeshadow primer (makes your eyeshadow stay on)

MAC eyeshadows ( Light under-brow is Blac Type. Warm brown in crease is Saddle. Darker brown outer corner is Brun.)

Use brush MAC 239 for Blanc Type

Use brush MAC 213 for Saddle and Brun.

Mascara is Lancome Hypnose

Brows: This Anastasia brow set is error-proof. To figure out which stencil fits your brows, hold them up to your brow and whichever one lines up closest at the peak (or arch) of your brow and where your brow starts, is your stencil.

Lips: Native lipliner.

MAC Myth lipstick.

how_to_do_eye_makeup_2

On lid add the gold: To get a reeeeally good metallic finish I used Makeup Forever Flash Color (gold) This case is SO USEFUL! I remember when I bought it thinking “I’m not sure if I’ll use all of these colors.” But this thing has come in handy SO many times! I’ve used it as a cream blush, I’ve used it for face painting, and for a million other things like on the back up kiddos in this music video (Despicable Me inspired ;))

Add the gold from this

For metallic shadows and creams I like this brush MAC 242

how_to_do_eye_makeup_3

Eyeliner on top: Chanel Liquid eyeliner

Eyeliner on bottom: Lancome Le stylo Noir

Lashes: Ardell 122

Lipgloss: Bobbi Brown Crystal I like this gloss because you can put it over anything and it doesn’t change the color, just makes it crazy shiny and smooth.

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! <3
