NYE With Michelle Money and Laced Hair

I had the pleasure of working along side Michelle Money on New Years Eve glamming up clients for the festive holiday! Michelle was doing hair (along with Laced Hair) and I was doing makeup. She is seriously so much fun!
It is so very hard for me to take a serious picture…Here is a list of the products I used on myself:

Complexion: Lancome Teint Miracle in Bisque 6, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in #2.5, Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Dark, Stila convertible color Lip and Cheek in Peony, aaaaand I know it looks like I used an illuminator, however I didn’t, I am just naturally glowy (aka I get oily and these pics were taken at the very end of the day. So free illumination for me! 😉 ) Brush in photo is It Cosmetics.

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, MAC Eyeshadows in order starting at lash line up to my brow-Carbon, Saddle, Bamboo, Blanc Type, Lancome Le Stylo eyeliner on top, bottom, and inner rim, Flutterlashes in Cami, Brow Wiz in Taupe.

Lips: Bobbi Brown lipstick in Beige Gold Shimmer, Urban Decay lip liner in Nude, Bite Agave lip mask.

Winging it

Winged eyeliner is all the rage right now! I’m seeing it everywhere!
And it’s the first thing on the list of The Best Makeup Trends For Spring 2015 along with several other spring makeup trends. My personal fav’s are the Brown-Eyed Girls (brown eyeshadow trend) and the Bare Minimum (barely wearing any makeup, makeup look.) What’s your favorite makeup look right now?

And of course, the winged eyeliner look.

These photos are from a while ago and I didn’t even know winged liner was going to be such a thing! Maybe I’m telepathic and I knew it would be an upcoming trend!? Or maybe it’s just pretty so I did it…..

Complexion: Smashbox foundation primer, Lancome Teint Miracle foundation, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, Bobbi Brown Bronzer in Natural, Chanel blush in Rose Bronze (the scent of Chanel’s blush is probably one of my favorite things in the world!) To highlight her cheeks I used Laura Mercier Peach Mosaic.

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, Chanel liquid eyeliner, Tarte inner rim liner, Temptress lashes from House of Lashes, Brow Wiz in Taupe.

Lips: Myth lipstick, Naked 2 lip liner, Crystal gloss.

Hair: 1.5″ curling wand from my fav curling iron brand Sultra, velcro rollers.

Makeup for Senior Photos

When it comes to your makeup for your senior photos I recommend going with makeup that is timeless and staying away from extreme trends. I think fluffy lashes, a pop of color on the cheeks, and a soft lip can look great on just about everyone!Taylor’s look:

Complexion: Temptu foundation, (Similar foundation recommendation non-airbrush Lancome in Bisque 4.) The main difference between airbrush foundation and non-airbrush is mostly just the way it’s applied. Think spray painting something vs. painting it with a brush. I think both ways work well! Bronzer is Warm Glow and Blush is Dollymix. Concealer is Laura Mercier Secret concealer #2.5

Eyes: Eyeshadow base, MAC eyeshadow in Wedge, Lancome Brow Pencil in Sable. Wispies.

Lips: Lancome lip liner in Charme, Lipgloss in Patience Please.A balanced makeup-look like this photographs so nicely!

Jobs in Florida

As I’ve mentioned before, getting mom’s ready for family photos is one of my favorite jobs. I feel like they deserve the pampering and it’s so rewarding to see their faces light up when it all comes together and they look in the mirror. Gives me warm fuzzies 🙂

It was pretty killer to be hired to do makeup and hair for several sessions in Florida this past fall. Seaside was stunning! Even after only getting like 30 minutes of sleep (taking the red-eye seemed like such a good idea at the time 😯 )

I went with Angie from Simplicity Photography who’s one of the greatest people I know. I totally had to force her into letting me take this photo but Florida looked good on her! It needed to be documented.I loved all of these sessions!

I have been told that it can be stressful trying to coordinate outfits for several people, and I can only imagine! I don’t have kids but I have caught onto some things along the way and thought I’d share.

Decide on the look or the feel you want to have for your shoot and then pick an inspiration piece, then build from there. If you tend to be pickier about what you wear, or what you look like in photos, it’s probably a good idea to find something you love for yourself first, and then coordinate around that.
Take photos in the actual clothes then line the photos up next to each other (this might sound extreme but it’s super helpful.) Things that seem to look good in my mind or laying next to each other on the bed, look different when I actually put them on. Make a private Pinterest board and upload the photos to look at them next to each other or for iphones there’s an app called Pic Jointer that can put up to 4 photos next to each other.
Preparation is key, even if you’re shopping in your own closet. These photos are to document a certain stage in life so do your best to just enjoy the time at the shoot with your family. Often photo shoot days are stressful and husbands and kids may be in a particularly bad mood for some reason. I hear bribery works nicely! 😎 And if everything doesn’t turn out perfectly, oh well! Sometimes the best photos aren’t the ones where everything is exactly in their place with everyone looking right into the camera. Sometimes it’s just about capturing those magical moments with your little ones. I think this lovely mama thought of all the details though…..I just noticed her adorable little toe ring!And these precious gals warmed my heart!Photos by Angie Simplicity Photography Probably most of the advice too 😉
We got to play for a couple of hours while we were there. And maybe paddle boarded right next to 4 dolphins….. it was a blast! Yes, yes it was.

Electric Violet Eyes and Contouring

It’s time! Your everyday, easy-to-use all in one, contour and highlighting foundation is available today! Use Maskcara’s IIID foundation to achieve this look.Shailey has the most feminine and dainty features, so much prettiness.To achieve this look start by applying the contour color (Here I used Stone) of your foundation to your forehead, under your cheekbones, and along the side of your nose using the larger side of the dual-ended brush by Maskcara (I used the brush by It cosmetics because the other brush had not been released yet.)You can blend with the same brush or with a beauty blender sponge (get it damp before using it.) I used the beauty blender because I was blending the IIID foundation into another foundation to achieve full coverage for Shailey’s family photos. Yes! You can use the IIID foundation alone for sheer to medium coverage or with another foundation for full coverage. With the smaller end of the brush apply your highlight shade (here I used Sunlit.) This will go down the center of your nose, upper cheekbones, center of forehead and basically anywhere else you feel you need the coverage. Blend blend blend!There you go! Everyday contouring, quick and easy. (Sorry about not getting individual photos of the blush and illuminator, which adds the finishing touch to this complexion. Shailey’s little ones had reached their limit for watching their mama get her makeup done! Understandably! So I quickly finished up. I was impressed they lasted as long as they did!) Blush color is called Pink Grapefruit and illuminator is Pearl.The rest of the details:

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, Jilted and Slowburn from the Urban Decay Electric Palette, MAC Retrospeck, Stila Liquid Eyeliner, Anastasia Dipbrow in Ash Brown applied with angled brush.

Freckles are Friends

I think freckles are adorable and people that have them always have added liveliness to their skin. It’s kind of like having permanent blush or a semi-tan! I like to use products with a natural finish to brighten up certain areas of the face on people with freckles, allowing the natural dimension of the freckles to show through. Here’s what I used:

Complexion: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Nude, Tarte concealer in Light Sand, Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Peach Mosaic to illuminate inner corners of eyes, center of nose, and above lips, Tarte Cheek Stain in Blushing Bride, Maskcara Cosmetics to contour in Stone

Eyes: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer, MAC Eyeshadows in Bronze and Carbon, Stila Liquid Eyeliner, Short Flare False Lashes and Lancome brow pencil in Taupe.

Lips: Urban Decay lip liner in Obsessed, Bite Lip Mask in Champagne.

Brow Stencil

Tori was such a sweet, relaxed bride. We watched Lion King while I did her hair, it was awesome! I thought her before and after would be a good example to show when it’s a good idea to use a brow stencil, since I don’t always use them as you can see in my brow video.

Sometimes brows look better when they’re filled in just by hand, but for photos or if you’re going to be filling them in a lot, brow stencils can be super helpful. I use the Anastasia brow stencils and you just hold the stencils up to your brows until you find the stencil that is closest to your natural brow shape, then use that stencil as a guideline for both brows. I’m such a fan of Tori’s freckles, but she said for her special day she wanted completely even, porcelain skin. I like her skin both ways. She’s so pretty!

Kjerstin Makeup

Doing makeup on someone with colorful hair like this made me have to think a little bit (heaven forbid right!? 😛 ) Like hmmm, do I need to do brighter makeup so her hair doesn’t take all the attention away from her pretty features? Or do I do lighter makeup so things aren’t competing? After a couple of adjustments and finding out the location of the photo shoot, I decided that a gunmetal-neutral toned smokey eye and slight pop of color on the lips would be a good balance.
