Simply Sadie’s Simply Sweet Makeup Look

Longtime client and friend, Sadie from simplysadiejane (she blogs about fitness, and other useful things) was asking me about how she should be doing her makeup since she drastically changed her hair color (she used to be very dark. See other post here.) We had a little fun. makeup_headshot_natural_tutorial_vivianmakeupartist_webOne of my favorite things about this look was her lip color. I first moisturized her lips with my favorite lip product Bite  and then blotted it down. I then softly outlined her lips in what I’d call a lip contour color, I used MAC Stone lip pencil. Then I used one of my new favorite lipsticks Tom Ford Luca (it’s often sold out but I found it in stock here, woohoo!) Then added a little Bobbi Brown Crystal gloss.natural_makeup_simplysadiejane_vivianmakeupartist_webComplexion: For her foundation, bronzer and contour I used Temptu Airbrush, but my recent favorite non-airbrush foundation is Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation (for those of us who do not have the time to airbrush ourselves every day, including myself!) Cle de Peau Concealer in Ocher, Tarte Cheek Stain in Fearless, and Guerlain Loose Powder Mattifying Veil in medium.

Eyes: Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow PrimerMAC Eyeshadows  in Bamboo, Saddle, and Embark. Mac Creme liner on top in black (dark brown would have also looked great,) and Lancome Khol eyeliner in Blanc on lower inner rim. Too Faced mascara and Kiss Individual lashes in short, medium and long.  In her brows I used Anastasia Brow Wiz in Taupe and Anastasia Brow Pen in universal-light. fitness_makeup_body_glow_vivianmakeupartist_webAnd on her body I used Gleam in Rose Gold mixed with a little Gleam Bronze Gold. I’ve been talking about body glow products a lot lately because I love them. *Some things to be aware of when using Gleam: you’ll want to wait a couple minutes for it to dry and be careful when you’re getting in or out of your clothes. Other than that I haven’t had problems with it getting on my clothes. It’s easy to wash off or wash out, so that’s good.

Thank you to Jessica Janae for the photos. Isn’t Sadie adorable? natural_makeup_fitnessmakeup_vivianmakeupartist_webI’ve recently started doing yoga again, to help with the neck and back issues I have from work. It’s starting to help but sometimes I want to switch it up a little. What are some of your favorite workouts to do?

the perfect bridal glow

Something that I learned in makeup school is you should always address ANY of the skin that will be showing on your client, not just on their face. So depending on their outfit I always try to remember to look at their neck, arms, back or legs and see if any of it needs to be smoothed or color corrected.

Funny side note, the teacher talking about this told us that Conan O’Brien refuses to let anyone put makeup on his hands…even though apparently it looks pretty distracting when his hands are anywhere near his face.

Sometimes just adding a little glow and evenness to your body is enough to take your entire look to the next level. You can see the subtle difference on her arm in the photos below.
bodyglowwebI’ve been trying all different kinds of body glow products all summer long and here are my favorites:

For a sheer more subtle look, I love Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body

For a more reflective look with a little more coverage, I like Gleam. They make several colors and you can find help choosing your correct shade by watching the videos on this page here.glow_bridal_makeup_webIsn’t Marina lovely?

More details for this look coming soon.

How to get your curl to last ft. Pyper America

I had the pleasure of working with Pyper America, a model who lives in LA. She is not only beautiful, she’s sweet and would not even let me pay for my own lunch.  And now we bring to you the secrets of how to get your hair to stay curled!!!!

One of the things I hear people say is that their hair doesn’t hold curl. Often that is because they aren’t using any product or the right products. If curl falls out of your hair almost immediately you’ll want to put some product in it before you curl. what_to_use_to_get_curl_to_stay

My favorite pre-curling spray is Oribe’s Impermeable. It’s just the right amount of hold without making your hair crunchy or sticky.

I used the Sultra Bombshell  and I found it for a great deal here.

I love Oribe’s Superfine hairspray and you can get it for a great deal here.

Little hair clips to hold the curl in place while curling here.

Alison from Pick Your Plum and How does she

I’ve had the pleasure of doing Alison’s makeup several times and for this look, here’s what I used:

Complexion: Temptu s/b Foundation in 004, Temptu bronzer, Too Faced bronzer to set,  Tarte Fearless stain blush,  Lancome Effacernes Concealer in Light Bisque, Contour by Maskcara in Shadow.

Eyes: Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow PrimerMAC Eyeshadows in Ricepaper, Saddle, and Bronze, Lancome Le Stylo eyeliner in Noir on inner rim and, Lancome Artliner in Noir on top. Hypnose Mascara, and Lancome Brow Pencil in Taupe.

Lips: Lancome Color Design Lipstick in Love it!, Bobbi Brown Crystal gloss

I also used  Tweezerman slant tweezers (love these! And this is a good deal for them.)

Alison is not just a pretty face, she’s an awesome business person too. She’s a founder of How Does She , a successful blog and is currently in the running to be on the cover of Costco magazine. She also started Pick Your Plum, a site that sells things for a super good deal.

Speaking of good deals, I know sometimes makeup can add up cost-wise. One of the best ways to get a “deal” on luxury cosmetics is to buy when there’s a free gift (which typically is loaded with super useful things like mascara, eyeshadows, lipcolor and skincare.) If you’re in the Salt Lake City area you can swing by the Lancome counter at Nordstrom Fashion Place in Murray to get your free gift with any $42.50 purchase. And if you mention my name, you’ll be entered to win a basket filled with Lancome product. AMAZING! If you’re a frequent reader of my blog you know that I often use Lancome products and love them.

You can pre-sell with them now, which means they will hold your product for you to make sure it’s not sold out when the gift comes (you can go in or call 801-261-4402.) Or the gift will be in store from July 9th-16th. Don’t forget to make sure you’re entered to win the free basket of Lancome!
