Must haves:
A 5/8 inch curling iron Sometimes when people have naturally wavy/curly hair and they say they hate it, I want to cry a little. I get it, sometimes the hair is not all the same amount of curly. Sometimes it’s straighter on the top and ringletty on the bottom. You just need to help those lil curls out a little. My wavy hair to do’s: -Be careful while towel drying. Opt for a gentle wrap and squeeze rather than a wrap and rub back and forth (that can cause the hair to be more frizzy.) -Use the right products. On Jessa I used this mousse (I got it when I purchased my Kenra 25 Hairspray.) Here’s an update on my current favorite products for a wavy or curly hair look: – After applying some mousse from root to tip, blow dry your hair with a diffuser and flip your head upside down for a little bit more volume. If your hair tends to get frizzy, use a lower setting. -Wrap sections of hair around a small curling iron to give it a little bit more curl in the areas that need it. You can just grab random sections, it doesn’t need to be super uniform. It’s fast and will make a big difference. Jessa’s hair is amazing! I made her come to her appointment with wet hair so I could style it using the previous steps, from start to finish. Complexion: Temptu s/b Foundation in 004 And did you know you can apply this foundation with a brush? I have been using this one a lot and love it with this formula, and it’s cheap! Thank you so much for posting this about wavy hair! I’ve been looking all day for good wavy hair tips but all I can find is stuff for curly hair or how to make your waves straight :/ I’m about to do a two week natural hair challenge and if you have any other tips or tricks for wavy hair you could share, I would appreciate it!
The two week challenge sounds awesome! Ya let me know if you have any specific questions at all!
I think my biggest question is how can I get good second day hair when it’s wavy? I sleep on it and it becomes a flat, tangled mess. Are there any products or tricks you recommend to revitalize my waves the next day?
Pull it into a scrunchy on top of your head and the next day just do a couple of wrap curls if needed! 🙂
Put Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner in wet hair, use a wide tooth comb to comb through and distribute, and let it dry. That stuff is amazing!!
Use a spray bottle with water and spritz to dampen it but don’t get it really wet. Then scrunch it with your hands. Use Humectin if it frizzy. Then use a pick to separate it if necessary
So beautiful !!! Need to get back to ny natural texture – great advice !!
Yes! Embrace it for sure!
The link to the creme isn’t working could you let me know the brand? Thanks!
Just fixed the link! Thanks for letting me know. It’s the Kenra (I linked to the mini size) and I just ordered the Sebastian. So excited to get it!
I love her hair! My hair is naturally wavy but it goes more frizzy than anything as I get older. I’ve never really learned to do anything well with it, besides straightening it. This might be a silly question but when do you put in the product? Should the hair still be fairly wet or do you wait until it’s a little bit more dry? Do you comb it through afterwards?
Thanks for the advice! I love your website!
Put the mousse in when it’s wet. Probably don’t brush it out because that can cause more friz and can straighten the curly texture if you aren’t careful. Doing the wrap curls (wrapping a section around the curling iron) will help smooth the hair as well.
Hi!
Thanks for the tips! Can you tell me the name of both the mousses? The link isn’t working?
Thanks!
Thank you so much for letting me know! I just fixed the links 🙂 It’s Kenra and Sebastian
How long would you say her hair took to do from start to finish?
I would say with blow drying and curling about 30-40 minutes.
Hey! I just found your blog and I love it! I have naturally curly hair. And it is super thick. Most products don’t hold and I’m on a budget. Is there any good mouse and hair dryers from the drugstore that you would recommend?
Hi!!!! If most things don’t tend to hold in your hair, the Oribe products should do the trick. As far as a cheaper option, have you tried the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Mousse? That ones pretty good.
Hi Vivian, can you tell me how you applied the makeup on the eyes?
I am thinking about hair colors for my hair and i love jessa’s hair in her pics, do u by any chance know what colors she has in her hair, in the pics.
I’m not sure, I’m sorry!
How do you get such a deep part without it looking like a combover?? I can’t get my hair in the front to stay over on the other side to create more volume. Does that make sense?
How can I get my hair to grow longer. I have tried so many products, but they all don’t work with my thick wavy hair. Have any ideas?
I have shoulder length curly hair and want it to GROW!! Ive tried coconut oil, vitamins, and no heat for a while now and it is still the same length.. what product or treatment would you suggest?
How did you do the part? My hair is naturally wavy and I don’t use heat on it but I’m never satisfied with my part. If I do a straight part it makes my hair look awkward and flat!
Well, it’s not really parted, it’s kind of just tossled. You can try parting your hair an inch or two over from where you normally part it, or try parting it on the complete opposite side from where you normally part it. It can feel weird at first but often will have a lot more body!
I have naturally wavy hair – not too curly but definitely frizzy. I wear my hair both ways – naturally wavy as well as pin straight (via a flat iron).
Either way I style my hair, I use the Somaluxe Exotic Oil Conditioner – It eliminates/makes the frizz go away and gives you a smooth and sleek look. This product does as good a job and smells great. I have been using the same bottle now for 2 months – it lasts a long time. . .
As someone who has super fine, thin hair I must say I am so jealous of her hair. The length, the color, the waves … all of it. She is one beautiful girl, is she a pro model?? If not, she should be!
I know right!?! She’s a blogger and photographer, but also models. She is gorgeous. My hair is kind of fine too, so I get it!
The wavy hair looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this! I always wanted to have this kind of hairstyle, just halfway between straight and curly hair but I find it very hard to keep it last long. Now I know how to control the curls better. Thank you!
I absolutely love the hair and makeup you did a wonderful job on her… and it gave me a lot of great tips …I have wavy hair and sometimes it is hard to make the waves stay so thank you for the tips now I will be trying this in the morning!
