Holiday Hair and Makeup

messy_fishtail_party_hair_party_makeup_updo_braid

I often have a hard time deciding if I want to look fancy, or if I want to go with the “messy” or boho look. I feel like this look on Jessa conquers both!

I call this lip formula a “washable waterproof.” It stays put but it also wears off fairly nicely (like it goes from a deep dark color then softens out to almost like an ombre lip throughout the day,) and then comes off when you want it to.

It’s two lip liners.

URBAN DECAY Blackmail  and

URBAN DECAY Venom.

I lined the inside 2/3 of her lips with Venom then with more precision lined the outside with Blackmail then overlapped the colors so they’d blend together.

You will need a sharpener for these.

Grind House.

I like this sharpener because there’s a cover for the blade part so when the product gets stuck in the edges of the sharpener you can cover it so it doesn’t end up all over the rest of my stuff. It’s the little things 🙂

The highlight/glitter on the inner corner of her eye is

URBAN DECAY Glamrock

Illuminator skin glowy goodness (mostly you can see it on the tip of her nose) is

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel

I’ve been testing out all sorts of foundations lately (I’d love to hear what you love!) On Jessakae I ended up using La Mer Foundation and mixing it with a touch of Double Wear  (for a more natural look with some staying power.) fishtail_braid_holidayhair_vivianmakeupartistholiday_makeup_hair_updo_side_fishtail

Natural Holiday Makeup

Holiday makeup is always pretty, but not always natural looking. I wanted to do a look that is still fun and festive, but isn’t so over-the-top that if you don’t wear a lot of makeup you’d feel like an imposter in your own skin. how_to_do_eye_makeup_1I started with all the basics. Also, in the following paragraphs I am being a bit more detailed because I want you guys to understand why different products work for different things <3

Foundation: Airbrush (this set gets you all the basics you need to figure out your exact color match, plus you have options if you are more fair in the winter or more tan in the summer. Also great for anyone wanting to do makeup on others.)

You can also apply the foundation with a normal foundation brush. I love this brush here

A good foundation for oily skin is Double Wear Light

Double Wear Light

A good foundation for normal dry skin is this one from YSL

YSL Foundation

For normal/combo or normal to dry skin I like this contour cream

Contour Cream

Use this Armani brush to apply the contour to the sides of the nose, and under-curve of the cheekbone

Armani Brush

then blend with a damp beauty blender.

  Beauty Blender & Cleanser

If you’re more oily or prefer a matte finish, I like this Sculpting Powder

Sculpting Powder
and I apply the contour powder down the sides of the nose and under-curve of the cheekbone using this Armani brush here
 Armani Brush

Undereye Concealer: Lancome Effacernes

Eyes: Urban Decay Anti-aging eyeshadow primer (makes your eyeshadow stay on)

MAC eyeshadows ( Light under-brow is Blac Type. Warm brown in crease is Saddle. Darker brown outer corner is Brun.)

Use brush MAC 239 for Blanc Type

Use brush MAC 213 for Saddle and Brun.

Mascara is Lancome Hypnose

Brows: This Anastasia brow set is error-proof. To figure out which stencil fits your brows, hold them up to your brow and whichever one lines up closest at the peak (or arch) of your brow and where your brow starts, is your stencil.

Lips: Native lipliner.

MAC Myth lipstick.

On lid add the gold: To get a reeeeally good metallic finish I used Makeup Forever Flash Color (gold) This case is SO USEFUL! I remember when I bought it thinking “I’m not sure if I’ll use all of these colors.” But this thing has come in handy SO many times! I’ve used it as a cream blush, I’ve used it for face painting, and for a million other things like on the back up kiddos in this music video (Despicable Me inspired ;))

Add the gold from this

For metallic shadows and creams I like this brush MAC 242

how_to_do_eye_makeup_3

Eyeliner on top: Chanel Liquid eyeliner

Eyeliner on bottom: Lancome Le stylo Noir

Lashes: Ardell 122

Lipgloss: Bobbi Brown Crystal I like this gloss because you can put it over anything and it doesn’t change the color, just makes it crazy shiny and smooth.

O Holy Night, Kenzie Nimmo

It was incredible working on set when this video was being made. Kenzie, Harris and John are the absolute nicest, most talented, down to earth people and it was so amazing to see the magic when they came together. They really did this whole video in one take, it’s incredible! Before they started filming Kenzie just asked that while they’re singing this, to be thinking about the actual message they are singing about, and the emotion totally comes through in the video. Oh and please watch til the end!

video by Wride Photography.

As mentioned in the video, all the proceeds from the Itunes sales will be going to help a family in need this Christmas. So happy to be a part of it.kenzie_nimmo_hair_makeup

Holiday Makeup Deluxe

Take your holiday look up a notch by adding a bold lip. Follow the steps in my last post and then just add a few more details to get this extra glam holiday makeup look. holiday_makeupholidaymakeupHer lip color is MAC Russian Red and Lancome Mauvelle liner. I added some mini flares to her lower lashes and her top lashes are Flutter Lashes.  Keep your lips matte finish for a durable, velvety look—or gloss them up! Whichever you prefer! I added my favorite go-to Bobbi Brown gloss. This stuff is amazing for photos. holiday_makeup_lookvivianmakeupartistHere’s a little recap! holiday_makeup_look_vivianmakeupartist

Holiday Makeup Look

I don’t actually watch runway fashion shows terribly often, but when I do I sometimes think “Well, ya, of COURSE they can wear that, they can wear anything and it would probably look good on them. But I don’t look like them and I don’t have a million dollars to spend to play dress up.” The photos below may seem like I am giving you the makeup version of the runway show experience since Marina is so beautiful, but hear me out! You can probably achieve a similar look using mostly products you already own. The only thing I had to purchase for this was the one shade of super duper sparkly eyeshadow.

step_1Apply foundation primer (lately I’ve been liking Tarte’s.) Then foundation and bronzer.  Apply a lip hydrator (I’m obsessed with Bite’s lip mask! I use it on my cuticles too.) Apply eyeshadow primer and fill in your browsstep_2Then use a light brown eyeshadow on the crease and under the lower lash line. Wing it out and connect them together! I used Wedge by MAC.  The brush I used to apply and to blend for this was the Tom Ford Blend brush.  Since I’m a professional makeup artist and I’m doing makeup around the clock, I tend to invest more in brushes and things that will save me time, and this brush does. But for this any fluffy shadow brush with do.  I also like the MAC Fluff Brush. step_3Ok now for the fun part, sparkly eyeshadow!!!! I used Vintage Black Gold and there’s a quick video showing how to use it here. I applied it with this brush thing shown in the photo above, but I haven’t used it again since so I’d probably just apply it with your finger or a multitasking synthetic bristled brush like this one here.  I lined the lower inner rim with Lancome’s Blanc eyeliner but really any white khol eyeliner would probably work.step_4Apply mascara, Hypnose is a favorite of mine. Add your favorite light lip color, here I used Buxom White Russian.  *Optional, add top eyeliner and some lashes. For this look I used Ardell’s #205.
